Black Burdock 100g
Young burdock plants are cultivated for their slender roots, which can grow about one metre long and two centimetres across. Black Burdook root has a sweet, mild, and pungent flavour. This product is milder and different than Black Garlic but used the same way but oh so delish! Chefs who tasted it for us gave it the thumbs up and said its got a licorice quality and milder than black garlic so more useful. Does this sound expensive? No! all is ready for use - no wastage and much much more than Black Garlic in volume so cheaper on a menu!
Burdock has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties. It’s said to aid digestion and alleviate arthritis and some skin disorders. Burdock belongs to a class of herbs that work to balance the system. This group of plants includes perilla, spikenard, nettle, and ginseng. Burdock is also related to the artichoke. It can also be used in a sweet application. I believe Eleven Madison Park used it in icecream!!
Factoid – their sticky seed dispersal system which uses the hook system led to the invention of Velcro when Swiss inventor, George de Mestral, noticed them sticking to his dogs fur in 1948!
